The Edmonton Oil Kings, in collaboration with The Brick and 630 CHED Santas Anonymous, unveiled their 2019 Teddy Bear Toss jerseys at a press conference in the Oilers Hall of Fame Room at Rogers Place on Monday.
The jerseys will be worn during the team’s 13th annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by The Brick, taking place this Saturday, December 7 (7:00 p.m. MT) when the Oil Kings host the Calgary Hitmen.
Limited tickets to the game are still available here.
The jerseys will carry forward the theme from last year’s teddy bear-inspired look, this time with the ‘bears’ donning a set of overalls – including pant shells – as well as its signature puffy tail on the back of the jersey and shaggy bear fur printed on the socks.
Goaltender Todd Scott’s gear takes it a step further, as his glove, blocker, helmet and pads are all textured with the special teddy bear look.
“After last season’s successful look and feel of the jersey, our group felt there was an opportunity to build on the bear theme,” said Edmonton Oil Kings Alternate Governor and Director of Business Operations, Daniel Troiani. “Our goal was to re-create the bear in a full uniform to enhance the Teddy Bear Toss experience. We’re very excited to share it with our fans this Saturday.”
The Brick is once again the presenting partner of the event, while 630 CHED Santas Anonymous remains the beneficiary of all net proceeds raised when most of the unique jerseys are silent auctioned during the game, while a small few will raffled off following the game on the main concourse near Section 130.
“We’re very fortunate to work with two outstanding community partners on the event,” Troiani said. “The Brick as our presenting partner continues to inject energy and passion into the Teddy Bear Toss, but more importantly our organizations are aligned in our commitment to giving back to the Greater Edmonton Area.”
Along with proceeds from the auction and raffle sales, 630 CHED Santas Anonymous will also be the recipients of all teddy bears collected during the game, which are hoping to be in excess of more than 15,000 after a total of 14,981 were thrown to the ice following Jalen Luypen’s goal at 13:28 of the second period last year.
“The Oil Kings are very proud of our continued partnership with 630 CHED Santas Anonymous, an organization dedicated to supporting our community,” added Troiani. “They keep the spirit of giving alive throughout the year and we’re glad our event this weekend assists in fulfilling part of their needs during the holiday season.”
“The Oil Kings Teddy Bear Toss is a live picture of the community coming together to assist each other,” said Lana Nordlund, Executive Director for 630 CHED Santas Anonymous. “Over 14,000 bears flying through the air at Rogers Place is a sight to see.
“Everyone has a fond memory of a favorite stuffed animal from their childhood, and we know that the teddy bears cuddled and loved this Christmas will be fondly remembered long after the recipient children are adults.”
“The Brick is excited once again to partner with the Edmonton Oil Kings for their 2019 Teddy Bear Toss,” said The Brick Director of Stores for Northern Alberta, Chris Gloweski. “It’s important for The Brick to be able to give back to the communities that have supported us over the years.
“Through this partnership, we are fortunate to be able to support two amazing Edmonton charities; 630 CHED Santas Anonymous and the Stollery Children’s Hospital through the sales of Brickley Bears on game night.”
By purchasing one of those Brickley Bears for $20, fans will not only be supporting another great cause, but will have a chance to take home an early holiday gift of their own.
“Everyone who purchases a Brickley Bear at the game will be entered to win a 65” 4K TV that we will be giving away live on Saturday night,” Gloweski added.
Fans are reminded to bring their teddy bears to the game inside a clear plastic bag so as to keep them clean and undamaged when they are thrown onto the ice.
We’ll see you at the Teddy Bear Toss this Saturday, December 7!
