NEW WESTMINSTER – University of Calgary Dinos forward Elgin Pearce is the Canada West WHL Grad of the Month for November, after racking up 11 points in eight games.
Pearce played 254 career regular season games in the Western Hockey League, including 68 with the Medicine Hat Tigers during the 2012-13 to wrap up his junior career. During his time in the WHL, Pearce registered 148 regular season points to go along with 13 points in 34 playoff games.
A second round pick of the Kootenay Ice in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft, Pearce played 186 games with the Ice over three-plus seasons and won a league title with the club in 2010-11.
The fourth-year arts student from Port Coquitlam, B.C. is the reigning national R.W. Pugh Award winner for sportsmanship and athletic ability – university hockey’s equivalent of the Lady Byng Award.
Since joining the Dinos for the second half of the 2013-14 season, Pearce has recorded 38 goals and 39 assists for 77 points in 80 career games. 15 of those points have come during the current Canada West season, as Pearce sits tied for fourth in conference scoring through 14 games.
In addition to his success with the Dinos, Pearce represented Canada at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain where a group of Canada West all-stars helped Canada to bronze.
The other nominees for the WHL Grad of the Month award were: Prince Albert Raider turned Alberta Golden Bear Jayden Hart, UBC Thunderbird and ex-Spokane Chief Anthony Bardaro, ex-Lethbridge Hurricane and current Lethbridge Pronghorn Mitch Maxwell, longtime Saskatoon Blade and current Manitoba Bison Nick Zajac, and former Kelowna Rocket Jordon Cooke, who is now with the Saskatchewan Huskies.
