ROYALS’ FORSBERG NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals forward Alex Forsberg has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 27th, 2015.
Forsberg collected seven points (2g-5a) in two games to help the Victoria Royals begin the WHL’s 50th Season with a 2-0-0-0 record.
On Friday, September 25th against the Portland Winterhawks, Forsberg tallied three assists in the Royals’ 4-1 victory while earning first star honours. The following night, Forsberg recorded another strong multi-point effort with four points (2g-2a) in the Royals’ 6-5 win over the Winterhawks. Forsberg was named the game’s first star for the second consecutive night on Saturday.
The 20-year-old Waldheim, SK native is currently tied for first amongst all WHL players with seven points (2g-5a) and holds a plus-3 rating through two games. The 5-11, 192 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign and second season with Victoria. Forsberg has amassed 152 points (58g-94a) in 199 career WHL regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Landon Bow of the Swift Current Broncos for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Bow, a 1995-born netminder from St. Albert, AB, registered a 1.95 goals against average and a .957 save percentage in his first two starts of the season. On Friday, September 25th, Bow had an exceptional outing as he stopped 53 shots to lift the Broncos to a 2-1 shootout win against the Brandon Wheat Kings and earn first star honours. The following night, Bow turned aside 36 shots against the Wheat Kings in a 4-1 loss. Currently in his fourth season with the Broncos, Bow has posted a 50-37-4-5 record with eight shutouts in 109 career WHL regular season appearances.
