WINTERHAWKS’ BARTSCHI WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Portland Winterhawks’ forward Sven Bartschi is the WHL Player of the Week.
Bartschi picked up seven points, scoring three goals and four assists to go with a +4 rating, in two games over the past week helping the Winterhawks to a 1-0-1-0 record.
On Friday, October 14, the Winterhawks welcomed the Kamloops Blazers to the Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Bartschi scored one goal, added two assists and was named the games 3rd Star in the Blazers 5-4 overtime win over the ‘Hawks. On Saturday, October 15, the Winterhawks hosted the Brandon Wheat Kings; Bartschi collected two goals, two assists and was named the games 1st Star in the Winterhawks 6-1 win over the Wheaties.
Bartschi has points in six of seven games since returning to the Winterhawks following a very successful NHL training camp with the Calgary Flames. He currently sits 10th among all WHL scorers with 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in seven games played. The Calgary Flames made Bartschi the 13th overall selection in the recent 2011 NHL Draft and signed the WHL Star to an entry-level contract this summer. This is his second career WHL Player of the Week Award.
The WHL has also nominated Patrik Bartosak of the Red Deer Rebels for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Bartosak posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping 56 of 58 shots faced for a 1.000 goals-against average and 0.966 save percentage. Bartosak, a native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, led the Rebels to a 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes and a 4-1 victory over the Regina Pats.
