#WHLPlayoffs Three Stars: April 20, 2018

 

The first night on play in the Eastern and Western Conference Championships led to wins for the Swift Current Broncos and Everett Silvertips, featuring prominently in the night’s WHL Three Stars.

Silvertips’ forward Garrett Pilon (Washington Capitals) led the way with a pair of goals to earn first star honours. Pilon scored the Silvertips’ opening goal of the game 65 seconds into the contest, then added the game-winner late in the third period. Pilon now has 16 points (8G-8A) in 11 games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

Earning second star honours for the night was Broncos’ forward Aleksi Heponiemi (Florida Panthers). Heponiemi assisted on Swift Current’s second goal of the game by Giorgio Estephan and then scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period for the multi-point performance. up until that point, Heponiemi had only dished out assists in the 2018 WHL Playoffs, but now has 20 points (1G-19A) in 15 games.

Rounding out the Three Stars Friday was Broncos goaltender Stuart Skinner (Edmonton Oilers), who stopped 39 of 41 shots in his team’s 3-2 victory against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Skinner has now compiled a 2.06 goals-against-average and .936 save-percentage in 15 games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs, including a .944 SV% in the month of April.
