Game 4: Wednesday, April 25 – Enmax Centre, Lethbridge, Alta. – 7:00 p.m. MT

The Lethbridge Hurricanes used a little bit of home cooking to get themselves back into the Eastern Conference Championship Tuesday night.

Brad Morrison had a hat trick to set a franchise record for goals in a single playoffs and rookie Dylan Cozens found the back of the net twice as the Hurricanes rolled to a 5-1 victory in front of their home fans, moving to a perfect 7-0 on home ice in the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

Both teams got their fair share of chances in the first, but things remained scoreless through 20 minutes. The Hurricanes would waste little time in taking the lead just 131 seconds into the second period though. 2018 NHL Draft prospect Calen Addison carried the puck up ice, dished it outside to Morrison, who put it back into the slot for a trailing Dylan Cozens, who wired the puck past Stuart Skinner (Edmonton Oilers) to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.

That would be all the scoring for a 14:42 span when the Broncos evened up the game on Andrew Fyten’s second of the post-season. Ftyen picked up the puck in the slot and caught Logan Flodell with a backhand shot to tie up the game.

Unfortunately for the Broncos and fortunately for the Hurricanes, that tie lasted all of 66 seconds. As Addison controlled the puck on the power play at the top of the zone, he elected to pass the puck over to Morrison instead of shooting. The overage forward made no mistake on his shot attempt, tallying his first of the game through a maze of bodies.

Just 74 seconds into the third, Cozens got his second of the game. The Hurricanes rushed up ice, were denied on their first opportunity on net, but Cozens stuck around in the low slot area, receiving a quick pass out front from Taylor Ross seconds later that he’d put past Skinner for the 3-1 advantage.

A harmless looking shot on net resulted in the Hurricanes’ fourth goal of the game and Morrison’s second of the night. Facing pressure from a Broncos’ player, Koletrane Wilson put the puck on net. With bodies swarming around Skinner, Morrison got a stick on the puck to deflect it at the right moment.

An empty-net goal would complete Morrison’s hat trick minutes later, giving him 15 goals in the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

Logan Flodell stopped 23 of 24 shots in the victory. Addison and Ross each finished with a pair of assists in the contest to join Morrison’s four-points and Cozens’ pair of goals in the multi-point performances.

Single assists for the Hurricanes came from Wilson, Matthew Stanley, captain Jordy Bellerive (Pittsburgh Penguins), and Jake Elmer.

Sahvan Khaira and Matteo Gennaro had the single assists for Swift Current in the loss. Skinner stopped 29 of 33 in the loss.
