Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League released today the schedule of games for the 2017-18 WHL Regular Season.
The regular season schedule will begin Friday, September 22, as eight teams host season-opening games.
The defending WHL Champion Seattle Thunderbirds open the season at home, playing host to the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, September 23. The defending Eastern Conference Champion Regina Pats – hosts of the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup – will open their 100th season on the road, visiting the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, September 22, before returning to the Brandt Centre to host the Wheat Kings the following night.
In addition to the WHL’s regular season schedule, the WHL and the cities of Moose Jaw, Sask., and Swift Current, Sask., will serve as the official hosts for two games of the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series in November. Team WHL will face the Russian National Junior Team in Moose Jaw on Monday, November 6, and in Swift Current on Tuesday, November 7.
Once again, the bulk of WHL regular season games will be played on weekends. In total, 585 games will be played on weekends, holidays and over the Christmas break, which accounts for 73.9 per cent of all games in the 2017-18 regular season.
