Silvertips’ Hart named WHL Goaltender of the Week

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 10, 2017.

Hart, a second-round selection, 48th overall, of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2016 NHL Draft, picks up his fourth straight goaltender of the week award as he continues to stifle his opponents, helping the Silvertips ride a season-high nine-game winning streak to climb within a point of the division-leading Portland Winterhawks.

Appearing in three games this past week, Hart went a perfect 3-0-0-0, stopping 109 of 111 shots (.982 SV%) and keeping his goals against average down to an incredible 0.67. Wednesday against the Winterhawks, Hart stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 4-1 victory, earning third star honors at home. Two nights later, Hart was impossible to beat, stopping all 39 shots sent his way by the Spokane Chiefs in a 3-0 shutout, his fifth of the season and 24th of his career. He was named the first star of the game.

Saturday, Hart led the Silvertips to their second win in four days against the Winterhawks, stopping 42 shots in a 2-1 victory. Hart was named the second star on the game and the WHL’s third star of the night across the league. Even when his opponents are on the man-advantage, Hart is still tough to beat, surrendering just one power play goal on the last 17 opportunities.

The good news kept coming for Hart this week as the 6-foot-2, 185-pound product of Sherwood Park, Alta. as he was one of 13 players named to Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp last week.

As good as Hart’s November was, his December has been even better. He’s posted a 5-0-0-0 record with a 0.60 goals against average and stopped 171 of 174 shots (.983 SV%) while also recording two shutouts. Overall, Hart is 13-3-0-1 this season with a 1.32 goals against average, 0.961 SV% and five shutouts.

He leads the WHL in goals against average, SV% and shutouts while sitting sixth in victories. Since being drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158rd overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has compiled a 98-43-9-10 record with a 2.05 goals against average, .926 SV% and 24 shutouts.

The Silvertips are back in action Friday, December 15 (7:05 p.m. PST) when they take to the road for a game against the Spokane Chiefs.
