Silvertips announce multi-year extension with KRKO for broadcast coverage

Everett, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips, KRKO 1380 AM and 95.3 FM have announced a multi-year radio play-by-play partnership extension that has made the Everett-based radio station, broadcasting at 50,000 watts, the Silvertips’ radio flagship home since the club’s 2003-04 Western Hockey League expansion season.

The extension calls for KRKO and affiliate KKXA, to continue broadcasting live and in their entirety, all regular season and WHL Playoff Silvertips’ contests on a two-year renewal through the 2020-21 season. Select games for SoundTransit Everett Silvertips hockey will air during the season on affiliate KKXA 1520 AM and 101.1 FM. All broadcasts – additionally available via the TuneIn app and Amazon Alexa – will include the Everett Bone and Joint Silvertips Pregame Show, opening 30 minutes before each puck drop, and the Silvertips Postgame Show presented by Tulalip Resort and Casino.

It’s exciting to continue delivering our broadcast with half-hour pre-game shows and continue to seek elements of our coverage that are fresh and fascinating.”

The Voice of the Everett Silvertips, Mike Benton, will continue to call play-by-play action, host the Everett Bone & Joint Silvertips Pregame Show and Postgame Show presented by Tulalip Resort and Casino, and will also serve as the host of the Silvertips Hockey Show heard on select Tuesday nights, on (powered by Mixlr) from Sporty’s Beef and Brew in Everett. Benton will also provide morning Silvertips news updates, heard on KRKO.

Benton, a recipient of the Goldie Award in 2014 for statewide hockey play-by-play coverage in Alaska, enters his fifth season as the Voice of the Silvertips and 15th overall in hockey – previously with the Alaska Aces and Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, and continuing to serve in the Silvertips front office as director of broadcasting and public relations. Benton is scheduled to broadcast his 1,200th game in his career on February 28th in Kelowna, B.C. Returning for his fourth season as radio color analyst, Justin Morrison enters his 11th overall season on Silvertips broadcast coverage, previously as the host of Tips After the Game and will team with Benton on air for all Silvertips home games and select road games. Keith Black provides additional coverage from the KRKO studios, providing out-of-town scoreboard updates during each Friday and Saturday Silvertips game.
