Uchacz, from De Winton, Alta. was selected by the T-Birds in the first round, 10th overall, in the 2018 Bantam Draft in Red Deer, Alberta, on May 3.
“This is a great day for the organization,” said La Forge. “Kai is a talented player who is an important building block for the future. We are excited to see him in uniform as early as our first preseason game.”
Last season Uchacz played for the Okotoks Oilers Bantam AAA team and had 42 points (25G-17A) in 33 games. He played for Team South at the 2018 Alberta Cup and had eight goals and four assists for 12 points in five games.
“I’m extremely excited to be here and very proud of my son’s accomplishments and looking forward to his future in Seattle,” said Rick Uchacz.
Uchacz is the third member of the 2018 Bantam Draft class to sign with the team. Conner Roulette, from Winnipeg, Man., the T-Birds second second-round in the 2018 Bantam Draft signed on June 5. Mekai Sanders, from Gig Harbor, Wash., the team’s ninth-round selection in the 2018 Bantam Draft signed on June 19.

A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes, trade schools, or any other institution which will help the player achieve his academic and career goals.
For each season played in the WHL, a player receives a one-year post-secondary scholarship, which includes: Tuition, Compulsory Fees and Required Textbooks.
The WHL provides the top young hockey talent in western Canada and the United States with the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice at the highest possible level, without compromising their academic goals. The WHL is committed to recognizing academic excellence.
