Following the Championship Final, the Canadian Hockey League announced the top individual award winners and tournament All-Stars for the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup as selected by NHL Central Scouting.
Regina Pats captain Sam Steel won a pair of awards, including the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy awarded to the Mastercard Memorial Cup MVP. The Anaheim Ducks prospect was also recipient of the Ed Chynoweth Trophy, awarded annually to the leading scorer of the Mastercard Memorial Cup. Steel’s 11 assists were two short of tying a tournament record. In total, he collected 13 points to lead the tournament in scoring. In the process, Steel recorded five assists in Wednesday’s 6-5 victory over the Swift Current Broncos, tying a tournament record for assists in a single game.
Kaden Fulcher of the Hamilton Bulldogs earned the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Goaltender. The prospect of the Detroit Red Wings went 2-2 with a 2.27 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
Acadie-Bathurst Titan defenceman Adam Holwell rounded out the award winners, receiving the George Parson Trophy as the Most Sportsmanlike Player. The veteran recorded two goals in four games, including the game-winning strike in the Mastercard Memorial Cup Final.
Three Regina Pats and three Acadie-Bathurst Titan were named to the tournament All-Star team, with the Mastercard Memorial Cup champion Titan being represented by defenceman Noah Dobson, forward Jeffrey Truchon-Viel and forward Samuel Asselin. Regina’s Steel was joined by goaltender Max Paddock and defenceman Josh Mahura.
