Kamloops Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram may not have been busy, but he did all that was required of him, turning aside six shots to backstop Canada to a 5-0 win over Slovakia Tuesday night at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Toronto.

The product of Imperial, Sask., made his first start of the tournament after Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart blocked 14 shots in a 5-3 win over Russia to open the festivities Monday evening.

After playing to a scoreless tie following 20 minutes of play, it was Jeremy Lauzon scoring to give Canada a 1-0 lead early in the second period. Taylor Raddysh doubled the advantage before Anthony Cirelli and Thomas Chabot piled on to give the hosts a 4-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.

Michael McLeod rounded out the scoring in the third period as Canada outshot Slovakia by a margin of 39-6.

Seattle Thunderbirds star Mathew Barzal put his name on the scoresheet for a second consecutive night, managing one assist in the victory. The product of Coquitlam, B.C., was named Player of the Game after posting a goal and two assists in the opening victory over Russia on Monday. With 16:04 worth of ice time, Barzal once again led all Canadian forwards in time on ice.

Kelowna Rockets forward Dillon Dube also managed to find the scoresheet again, notching one assist.

Canada will enjoy a day off on Wednesday before facing Latvia on Thursday, Dec. 29 (6 p.m. MT).

Other action saw the Czech Republic defeat Switzerland by a 4-3 margin, while the Russians hammered the Latvians 9-1. The other contest of the day saw Denmark upset Finland with a 3-2 decision.
