The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they have signed forward Orca Wiesblatt (pronounced Wise-blatt) and have added him to the roster.
Wiesblatt, from Calgary, AB, was listed by the Hitmen last week and has been playing this season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. In 46 AJHL games, Wiesblatt has 23 points (12G-11A) and 81 penalty minutes. Wiesblatt had previously been committed to the University of Vermont.
“We feel Orca is a player who can come in and contribute to our hockey club,” said General Manager Jeff Chynoweth. “With injuries to two of our forwards and the departure of Lucas Cullen, we wanted to add depth to our forward group. Orca also strengthens our 2000 age group.”
Wiesblatt spent the 2015-16 campaign in CSSHL with the SISEC Prep, where he tallied 18 points (7G-11A) in 34 games. Wiesblatt was teammates with current Hitmen defenceman Andrew Viggars on the Calgary South 2015 ATB Alberta Cup Championship team.
The Hitmen return home to host the defending WHL champion Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday, Oct. 28, in a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Saturday’s contest is the Hitmen’s WHL Suits Up with Don Cherry to Promote Organ Donation – Presented by RE/MAX event.
