GIANTS AND BLADES COMPLETE TRADE

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants have acquired goaltender Adam Morrison and right winger Levi Bews from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for Michael Burns, Zach Hodder, and a 4th round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Morrison, a native of White Rock, B.C., is in his 4th year in the WHL and has a career record of 44-22-1-5. Originally selected by the Blades in the 3rd round, 49th overall in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, the 20 year old was also a 3rd round selection of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. With his addition, the club now has 3 goaltenders on the active roster.

Levi Bews is in his 2nd full season in the WHL. Last year, while playing on a Blades team that had the best record in the regular season, the 16 year old had 7 points in 52 games. A native of Longview, AB, Bews is a big, strong winger who will compliment fellow 1994 born players Dalton Sward and Matt Bellerive.

“Its tough trading Michael Burns, who was a complete player for us,” said Executive Vice-President and General Manager Scott Bonner. “However, our need for an experienced goaltender has become apparent and in order to acquire a quality player you need to give up a quality player. In Levi Bews, we add another strong 17 year old to our core that we hope to build with.”

Both players will be available for tomorrow night’s game vs. Spokane.

The club has also reassigned centre Logan Harland to midget. In 3 games the 16 year old had 1 goal. The Giants roster is now at 28 players.

Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades have acquired two players and a draft pick from the Vancouver Giants.

Coming to the Blades are right winger Michael Burns, defenceman Zach Hodder and a 4th round pick in the 2013 bantam draft.

Burns is a 20 year old from Edmonton, Alberta and has also spent time with the Edmonton Oil Kings.  Hodder is 18 years old and has spent his entire WHL career with Vancouver.  He hails from Delta, BC.

Heading the other way are goaltender Adam Morrison and right winger Levi Bews.

“We want to thank both players for being a big part of our organization over the last few years”, said Head Coach and General Manager of the Saskatoon Blades Lorne Molleken.

“In regards to Morrison, we had to make some decisions with our overage situation and this also gives him a chance to go home and play on a great team”, added Molleken.

“Levi was a young player that never quite fit in with the makeup of our team.  But, he’s a good player and will have a chance to join a great organization in Vancouver.”

Molleken also commented on the new players arriving.

“Burns is a big, strong kid who has the potential to put up good numbers here in Saskatoon.  He’s a true character guy who works hard and will compliment our team”.

“Hodder is a good, young, skilled defenceman.  We’re really happy to bring him aboard and we look forward to seeing him here in Saskatoon”.

Both players are expected to be in the lineup for tomorrow night’s game against the Prince George Cougars.

Also as part of the deal, it means that goaltender Adam Todd has been recalled by the Blades from Port Alberni of the BCHL.
