The final round robin game of the 2015 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup took place as Alberta looked to keep their undefeated streak intact while Manitoba strived for their second victory of the tournament.

Alberta dominated the first period as they outshot Manitoba 16-2 and got a goal from Victoria Royals prospect Eric Florchuk as he tucked in a rebound opportunity by netminder Matthew Thiessen.

In the second period, Thiessen had stopped 23 of 24 Alberta shots before Saskatoon Blades prospect Chase Wouters scored a power play marker from a sharp angle to increase Alberta’s lead to 2-0.

Alberta put the game out of reach in the third period when Calgary Hitmen prospect Tristen Nielsen scored on a breakaway chance to give his team a commanding 3-0 lead. Manitoba could not get anything going offensively as the Alberta defence limited their opportunities to only eight shots on goal. Alberta remains perfect in the tournament posting a record of 3-0-0-0 and earning a spot to the gold medal game on Sunday.

Jacob Bennett turned aside eight shots for Alberta to earn his first shutout of the tournament while Matthew Thiessen stopped 32 shots for Manitoba.

The players of the game were Benjamin Coppinger for Team Manitoba while Eric Florchuk earned the honour for Team Alberta.
