2015 WESTERN CANADA U16 CHALLENGE CUP

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League, in partnership with the four Western Provincial Hockey Associations – Hockey Alberta, BC Hockey, Hockey Manitoba and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association – in association with Hockey Canada, are pleased to announce that the 2015 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup will take place October 28 – November 1, 2015 at the Markin MacPhail Center-Winsport in Calgary, Alberta.
At a media conference in the Hockey Canada Hall of Champions the team rosters were announced:

The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup will feature the highest rated players in the Under 16 age category representing the four Western Provinces of Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The four team round robin tournament format, which will open Wednesday, October 28 and conclude on Sunday, November 1, 2015, is the first step in the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence. In addition, the event assists the four Western Provincial Hockey Associations in evaluating top prospects in this age group for future high performance programs. The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup is made possible through financial support provided by the WHL and Hockey Canada. The majority of the players participating in the event were selected in the WHL Bantam Draft in May (2015), and many of these top young prospects will play major roles on WHL Clubs in the seasons ahead.

The first ever Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup was held in Blackfalds, Alberta in 2009 and featured four of the top eight players selected in the 2012 NHL Draft. In 2010, the Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup was not contested due to the Canada Winter Games. In 2011, the Moose Jaw Warriors and Saskatchewan Hockey Association hosted the event at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 2012, the tournament was hosted in Calgary at Father David Bauer Arena, the home of the WHL. In 2013, the tournament was hosted in Calgary at the Father David Bauer Arena, the home of the WHL. In 2014, the Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup was not contested due to the Canada Winter Games.

TICKET PRICING LIST
Note: A ‘Day Pass’ is valid for both games on any particular day, Seniors (60+), Students (15-24). On-site ticket sales will begin one (1) hour prior to the start of the first game, each day of the tournament.
Each team will be comprised of a maximum of twenty (20) players, at least two (2) of whom must be goaltenders, on the tournament roster. Each goaltender must start a minimum of one (1) game over the duration of the event. Hockey Canada Rules as applicable for minor hockey will apply.
