Drummondville pulls out big win over Windsor at 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup

Both teams seemed nervous in the first period, which translated into very few quality scoring chances. They retreated to their respective dressing rooms with the score tied at zero after the first twenty minutes of play.
Windsor played undisciplined hockey in the second period, giving the Voltigeurs three consecutive power-play opportunities, but they were unable to capitalize. Yannick Riendeau, the Canadian Hockey League’s top point-getter this season, had a clean breakaway on Andrew Engelage, but even he couldn’t solve the Spitfires’ backstop in the second period. Adam Henrique finally opened up the scoring on the power-play with only 0.2 seconds remaining in the second period.
There was plenty of action in the third period. Gabriel Dumont registered Drummondville’s first goal of the championship at 12:01 by pouncing on a fat rebound in the crease. The Spitfires responded quickly as Adam Henrique scored his second goal of the game by deflecting a point shot past Marco Cousineau.
The Voltigeurs just kept coming. Philippe Lefebvre came rushing into the offensive zone and blasted a wrist shot that found an opening under Engelane’s glove.
Then, Frenette was mobbed by teammates after he broke the tie in overtime.
The Windsor Spitfires will battle the Rimouski Océanic in game three of the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup tomorrow starting at 4:30 pm on Rogers Sportsnet and RIS.
