Calgary, AB – The 2009-10 Western Hockey League schedule enters its second weekend of play in November with 23 games slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In Everett, WA, the Silvertips are encouraging fans to help support their Emergency Food Drive at their weekend games on Friday versus the Kelowna Rockets and Saturday versus the Seattle Thunderbirds. Fans can donate non-perishable food items to help replenish the supply at the Volunteers of America Food Bank.
In Medicine Hat, AB, Sunday is Skate With The Tigers day. Fans can hit the ice with their favorite Tigers players, with proceeds from the event going to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Medicine Hat and District.
In Portland, OR, fans can get a double-dose of hockey by taking in the Golden Skate Firefighter Charity Hockey Game prior to the Winterhawks’ contest versus the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night. The Charity game will pit the Portland Firefighters Hockey Club versus the Seattle Firefighters Hockey Club, with proceeds from the event going to the Leary Firefighters Foundation.
In Spokane, WA, Sunday night is Washington’s Lottery Night when the Chiefs host the Kelowna Rockets. Fans are encouraged to bring a new children’s book to donate to Page Ahead, a children’s literacy program. For each book donated by a fan 18 years or older, they will receive a $1 Washington Lottery scratch ticket.
WHL ANNOUNCES 2009-10 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS…
Western Hockey League Commissioner Ron Robison announced today that a total of 253 WHL graduate players have been awarded WHL Scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year.
The WHL Scholarship recipients are enrolled as full-time students in 64 different post-secondary institutions throughout North America.
This season 106 of the 253 WHL Scholarship recipients are furthering their education while playing elite hockey in the Canada West University Hockey League of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Association. These students have combined their WHL Scholarship with additional financial assistance from their Canada West University to receive Western Canada’s Premier Hockey Scholarship.

SUBWAY SUPER SERIES NEWS…
The Western Hockey League in association with the Canadian Hockey League and SUBWAY®, on Thursday announced that NHL Hall of Fame member and former Victoria Cougars goaltender Grant Fuhr will serve as Honourary Captain for the SUBWAY® Super Series game between Team WHL and the Russian National Junior Team being held in Victoria, British Columbia on Wednesday, November 25th.

FRIDAY NIGHT WHL HOCKEY, LIVE ON SHAW…
Brandon Kozun and the Calgary Hitmen (17-6-0-0) welcome Bretton Cameron and the Medicine Hat Tigers (11-9-2-2) for a Central Division battle on Friday night.
Friday’s contest between the Hitmen and Tigers can be seen live throughout western Canada on SHAW (7:00pm MST).
The Hitmen are coming off a 7-2 win over the visiting Kootenay Ice in a Remembrance Day matinee on Wednesday for their seventh straight home-ice victory, and currently hold an eight-point lead over the Tigers for top spot in the Central Division. The Hitmen’s power play is operating at a WHL-leading 32.4 per cent clip this season. Kozun is currently riding a 16-game point streak, and leads all WHL players with 43 points in 23 games this season.
The Tigers are coming off a 6-1 victory over the Western Conference-leading Tri-City Americans on Wednesday night for their second win in three games, and currently sit in second place in the division. The Tigers are 4-7-1-1 on the road this season, but have dropped five of their last six road games. Bretton Cameron currently ranks second among all WHL players with 19 goals this season.
It’s the second meeting of the season between the Central Division rivals. The Hitmen posted a 5-4 shootout win in Medicine Hat on September 25th in the first encounter.

KEY WEEKEND MATCHUPS…
Moose Jaw Warriors vs Regina Pats
Friday, November 13th in Regina; Saturday, November 14th in Moose Jaw
Jordan Eberle and the Regina Pats (10-9-2-0) battle Brendan Rowinski and the Moose Jaw Warriors (13-8-0-0) in a weekend home-and-home series between the bitter East Division rivals.
The Pats are coming off Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the visiting Prince George Cougars, stretching their winning streak to four games, and have climbed back into the thick of the race in the East Division. Regina’s power play ranks third in the WHL, behind only Calgary and Moose Jaw. Eberle is averaging better than two points per game this season, having tallied 15 goals and 33 points in just 16 outings.
The Warriors are coming off a 5-4 overtime win over the visiting Cougars on Saturday night for their second victory in their last three games, and currently sit tied with Brandon for second place in the East Division. The Warriors have scored 89 goals this season for the second-highest offensive production of any WHL team. Rowinski has scored seven goals and 10 points over his last seven games.
The teams met two previous times this season, with the Warriors winning on each occasion.
