‘TIPS RALLY FOR OVERTIME VICTORY OVER CHIEFS – Tyler Maxwell scored 2:02 into overtime to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 4-3 win over the visiting Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday night.
Shane Harper scored twice and Chris Langkow also scored for the Silvertips (15-7-1-0), who rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to post their second straight victory, moving them one point ahead of the Chiefs for third place in the U.S. Division. Kent Simpson made 34 saves to record his sixth win of the season.
Tyler Johnson, Steve Kuhn and Stefan Ulmer scored and Jared Spurgeon drew three assists for the Chiefs (14-8-2-0), who stretched their lead to 3-1 with Ulmer’s power play marker 4:16 into the third period, but surrendered the next three goals in the defeat. James Reid made 37 saves in the loss.
Jeremy Schappert scored twice and Prab Rai notched a goal and two assists to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 5-2 win over the visiting Regina Pats on Wednesday.
Charles Wells and Jonathan Parker also scored for the Thunderbirds (10-14-1-3), who have won six of their last eight games and now sit just one point out of a playoff position in the Western Conference. Kyle Jahraus made 26 saves to record his second win of the season.
Garrett Mitchell and Matt Strueby scored for the Pats (14-12-3-0), who see their four-game winning streak come to an end. Damien Ketlo turned aside 33 of 38 shots he faced in a losing cause.
Justin Feser scored twice and set up another to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday.
Johnny Lazo, Kruise Reddick, Neal Prokop and Jarrett Toll also scored for the Americans (19-6-0-0), who improve to 10-1 on home ice this season while improving to 3-0 versus the Winterhawks. Drew Owsley made 24 saves in the win.
Stefan Schneider scored both goals for the Winterhawks (16-12-0-0), who suffer their fourth straight loss and their third straight defeat on the road. Ian Curtis and Mac Carruth combined for 36 saves in the loss.
