BLADES EDGE BRONCOS – Charles Inglis’ goal 4:27 into the third period was the winner as the Saskatoon Blades edged the visiting Swift Current Broncos 2-1 in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday, November 4th.
Curtis Hamilton notched his seventh goal of the season for the Blades (15-3-0-2), who pick up their seventh win in a row and their 13th victory in their last 14 games. Steven Stanford made 22 saves to stretch his record to a perfect 6-0 as a member of the Blades.
Cody Eakin tallied his 18th goal of the season for the Broncos (9-9-0-1), who suffer their fourth straight loss and remain winless on the road this season. Morgan Clark made 30 saves in the defeat.
WARRIORS 6, RAIDERS 5 S/O
Brendan Rowinski and Quinton Howden scored in a shootout to lift the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors to a 6-5 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday.
Jason Bast tallied two goals and added three assists, Thomas Frazee scored twice and Howden added a goal and three assists in regulation for the Warriors (12-7-0-0), who were a perfect 3-for-3 on the man advantage in the contest. Jeff Bosch made 18 saves through 32 minutes of work and wasn’t beaten in the shootout to take the win after replacing starter Brandon Glover, who stopped 14 of 17 shots he faced through the first period and a half of work.
Igor Revenko tallied a goal and two assists and Justin Maylan, Ryan Harrison and Brandon Herrod also counted for the Raiders (9-8-0-1), who see a four-game winning streak snapped but move into a tie with Swift Current for fourth place in the division thanks to the shootout loss. Garrett Zemlak made 37 saves through three periods and overtime, but was beaten twice in the shootout for the loss.
PATS 7, TIGERS 4
Matt Strueby and Brett Leffler each scored twice to lead the Regina Pats to a 7-4 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday.
Jordan Eberle – with a goal and two assists – Cody Carlson and Garrett Mitchell also scored for the Pats (7-9-2-0), who went 3-for-5 on the power play, while Jordan Weal picked up three assists. Damien Ketlo made 33 saves to record the win.
Linden Vey notched two goals and an assist while Wacey Hamilton and Taylor Gal also counted for the Tigers (9-8-2-2), who suffer their second straight loss and their fifth defeat in six games. Tyler Bunz and Deven Dubyk combined for 23 saves in a losing effort.
HITMEN 3, OIL KINGS 2
Michael Stone scored with 50 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Calgary Hitmen to a 3-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday.
Joel Broda tied the game at 2-2 at the 18:26 mark of the third period while Brandon Kozun notched a goal and three assists for the Hitmen (14-5-0-0), who pad their Central Division lead to six points after their come-from-behind win. Martin Jones made 20 saves to record his 80th career victory.
Rhett Rachinski and Michael St. Croix scored for the Oil Kings (7-10-0-3), who suffer their third straight defeat but remain in third place in the Central Division. Cam Lanigan made 27 saves in the loss.
HURRICANES 3, SILVERTIPS 2
Rookie Mitch Maxwell scored twice, including the game-winner, as the Lethbridge Hurricanes topped the visiting Everett Silvertips 3-2 on Wednesday.
Austin Fyten also scored and Carter Ashton added two assists for the Hurricanes (6-11-2-0), who snap a two-game losing skid. Brandon Anderson made 22 saves to record his first career WHL win.
Byron Froese and Chris Langkow scored for the Silvertips (10-5-0-0), who see their four-game win streak halted and suffer their first defeat on their Central Division road trip. Kent Simpson made 23 saves in the setback.
ROCKETS 5, COUGARS 4 S/O
Tyson Barrie scored the lone goal in a shootout to lift the Kelowna Rockets to a 5-4 win over the visiting Prince George Cougars on Wednesday.
Mitchell Callahan and Brandon McMillan each tallied a goal and an assist while Spencer Main and Kyle St. Denis also counted in regulation for the Rockets (9-7-1-0), who move into second place in the B.C. Division with the victory. Adam Brown made 27 saves through regulation and overtime, and wasn’t beaten in the shootout to record his ninth win of the season.
James Dobrowolski scored twice while Nick Buonassisi and Robbie Ciolfi also scored for the Cougars (3-12-0-1), who suffer their third straight setback. Alex Wright made 30 saves through regulation and overtime, but was beaten once in the shootout in the loss.
GIANTS 4, WINTERHAWKS 0
Craig Cunningham scored twice and Jamie Tucker made 24 saves to record his first shutout of the season as the visiting Vancouver Giants blanked the Portland Winterhawks 4-0 on Wednesday night.
Kevin Connauton notched a goal and an assist and Milan Kytnar also scored for the Giants (12-4-1-2), who earn their second straight win while outscoring their opposition 12-2 in that span.
Kurtis Mucha made 36 saves in a losing cause for the Winterhawks (13-7-0-0), who suffer their second straight shutout defeat.
CHIEFS 5, BRUINS 1
Kyle Beach scored two goals to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 5-1 win over the visiting Chilliwack Bruins on Wednesday.
Tyler Johnson and Levko Koper each tallied a goal and two assists and Mitch Wahl added a goal and an assist for the Chiefs (8-6-1-0), who win their second straight contest. James Reid made 24 saves to claim his sixth win of the season.
Kevin Sundher – with his eighth goal of the season – scored the lone marker for the Bruins (7-8-1-3), who drop their second straight decision and have been outscored 13-3 in that span. Lucas Gore made 37 saves in the loss.
