Regina, Sask. – After posting 129 points and an astounding 70 goals, Jayden Halbgewachs of the Moose Jaw Warriors was recognized as the CHL’s CCM Top Scorer for the 2017-18 season.
The product of Emerald Park, Sask. became the first WHL player to reach the 70-goal plateau since former Calgary Hitmen import Pavel Brendl achieved the feat back in the 1998-99 campaign.
Halbgewachs, 21, shredded the WHL in 2017-18. The diminutive forward was an absolute lightning rod for the Moose Jaw Warriors, helping the Club claim the WHL Regular Season title with a record of 52-15-2-3 (109 points). The Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy effort was the first in Warriors franchise history, undoubtedly paced, largely in part, by the ‘Magic Man’ himself.
A 70-goal season did not go unnoticed by NHL scouts. Previously undrafted, the 5-foot-8, 165-pound Halbgewachs turned his outstanding season into a free-agent contract with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks.
Originally a first-round selection (19th overall) of the Kamloops Blazers at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, Halbgewachs was traded to the Warriors on December 6, 2012 as part of a deal that sent defenceman Joel Edmundson to the Blazers.
In 276 career WHL regular season games, Halbgewachs accrued 280 points (139G-141A).
