Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens has been named the WHL Rookie of the Month for September and October 2017.
Cozens, 6-foot-3, 177-pound product of Whitehorse, Yukon, has appeared in all 13 of the the Hurricanes’ games this season, scoring 13 points (7G-6A). He’s also collected six penalty minutes, four power play goals and one game-winning goal.
Having originally made his WHL debut in November 2016 for the Hurricanes, Cozens has had an immediate impact in the Hurricanes’ success this season. He scored in the team’s season-opening game against the Medicine Hat Tigers and recorded the first multi-goal game of his WHL career one week later against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
After earning points in four of his first five games this season, Cozens had a five-game point streak starting Oct. 13 and running through to Oct. 25. His first three-point game came as part of that point streak on Oct. 22 against the Tigers.
Last month, Cozens was named as one of 23 WHL players selected to represent Canada at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge, November 5-11 in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, B.C., eventually being assigned to play for Canada Black at the tournament.
