ROYALS CLASH WITH COUGARS, LIVE ON SPORTSNET – Jansen Harkins and the Prince George Cougars are on the road to take on Tyler Soy and the Victoria Royals in a B.C. Divisional battle on Sunday afternoon, live on Sportsnet 360 at (1:00pm MT/12:00pm PT).
The Victoria Royals are on quite a role as they have won nine in a row and are two points ahead of the Kelowna Rockets for first place in the B.C. Division. Royals team captain Joe Hicketts is enjoying a productive season as the defenceman has amassed 56 points (8g-48a) and a steady plus-34 rating in only 55 appearances this season. Forward Tyler Soy leads the Club in goals with 41 and in short-handed goals with six. Special teams have contributed to the Royals success as their power play operates 21.9% of the time, tied for ninth across the WHL whereas their penalty kill is tops amongst all WHL Clubs with an 85.1% conversion rate.
Jansen Harkins and the Prince George Cougars have slipped into the first wildcard spot in the Western Conference after dropping their last two contests, including a 6-2 defeat to Victoria on Friday night. The Winnipeg Jets prospect is currently fourth in points amongst his teammates with 56 (23g-33a) to help the Cougars clinch a trip to the post-season. Prince George has a steady penalty-kill unit as their 82.3% conversion rate ranks third-best overall. The Cougars offence has scored 236 goals this season which is the third most amongst Western Conference Clubs.
Today’s match-up marks the eighth and final regular season meeting between these two division rivals. Victoria has won four of the previous seven match-ups, outscoring Prince George 22-19 along the way. Alex Forsberg has collected nine points (5g-4a) for the Royals while Chase Witala has netted nine points as well (3g-6a) in the prior meetings between the two Clubs.
