WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE - Coordinator, Communications & New Media

The Western Hockey League (WHL), one of the World’s finest development leagues with 22 Member Clubs throughout Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest, is inviting applications for the position of Coordinator, Communications & New Media at its Calgary-based WHL Office.

The WHL Coordinator, Communications & New Media will be responsible to update and generate content for the WHL’s website and social media channels, produce media releases, manage WHL image libraries, generate editorial content, as well as provide WHL statistical records as requested including the production of the WHL Media Guide. In addition, the WHL Coordinator, Communications & New Media will be responsible to provide support to WHL Member Clubs, members of the media, WHL Staff and the WHL Senior Manager, Communications as required.

Candidates for the position should have experience in hockey or a related sports industry in the communications field and an advanced knowledge of social media platforms. In addition, candidates should possess strong writing and interpersonal skills, must be well-organized, demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects, and have a working knowledge of website technology. Graphic design experience would be an asset. The successful candidate will be an innovator with passion for the game of hockey. A post-secondary degree in communications or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required. Experience in hockey, at the Club or League level, will be considered an asset.
