Lethbridge Hurricanes Acquire Dustin Donaghy from Spokane Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs have traded 20-year-old forward Dustin Donaghy to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a sixth round bantam selection in the 2010 WHL draft.
Originally listed by Spokane in February, 2007, Donaghy had played 123 career games in a Chiefs jersey and was a part of the 2008 Memorial Cup Championship club. The Cranbrook, BC native appeared in all 72 regular season games last year scoring 10 goals and 24 points while leading the Chiefs with 124 penalty minutes. He had also appeared in 20 playoff games the past two seasons. In 13 games this year, Donaghy had one assist and 23 penalty minutes.
“Obviously this trade was out of necessity because of our league’s rules allowing only three 20-year-olds per team,” Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said. “Trades involving players from the Memorial Cup Championship team are more difficult but we feel Lethbridge will be a good opportunity for Dustin. We would like to thank him for all his contributions and wish him success.”
The move leaves the Chiefs with three 20-year-olds on their roster; defensemen Brett Bartman and Jared Spurgeon and forward Ryan Letts. Both Spurgeon (shoulder) and Letts (ankle) are recovering from injuries that have kept them out of the lineup the entire season and are listed as week-to-week.
