#WHLPlayoffs Three Stars: March 30, 2018
A trio of strong performances powered the Swift Current Broncos, Brandon Wheat Kings, and Everett Silvertips to clutch victories Friday night in the 2018 WHL Playoffs, making up the respective selections for the latest edition of the WHL Three Stars.
Tyler Steenbergen (Arizona Coyotes) led the way with a hat trick and four points as the Broncos edged the visiting Regina Pats by a 5-2 score. Steenbergen scored Swift Current’s first, third, and fifth goals of the game, with the first two coming on the power play. Steenbergen also notched the game-winner in the contest, the third of his WHL Playoffs career.
Ty Lewis (Colorado Avalanche) delivered a similar four-point performance, but notched a goal and three assists in the Wheat Kings’ 5-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers. Lewis’s goal kick-started a five-goal explosion for the Wheat Kings, who came from behind for their third straight victory. Lewis would go on to add a pair of primary assists and a secondary assist for the rest of the game. Facing off against the Tigers in back-to-back post-seasons, Lewis now has 10 points (4G-6A) in 10 career WHL Playoffs meetings against the Tigers.
Rounding out the podium Friday was Silvertips forward Connor Dewar. Up 2-1 in the first period on the road, Dewar converted on a penalty shot late in the period to make it a two-goal game. The Silvertips would go on to win the game 7-3, sweeping both games in Kent, Wash. and giving themselves a chance to close out the series on home ice Saturday. Through the first four games of the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Dewar has five points (1G-4A), outscoring his offensive production from the previous 19 post-season games combined.
