The first night of play in Round Two of the 2018 WHL Playoffs provided plenty of excitement and high competition for the first WHL Three Stars of the next step on the road to the Ed Chynoweth Cup.
Tri-City Americans captain Michael Rasmussen (Detroit Red Wings) earned first star honours for the evening, tallying a goal and three points in the Americans’ 7-0 win over the Victoria Royals. The Surrey, B.C. product scored the game-winning goal for the Americans and picked up points 14 and 15 of his 2018 post-season. Geekie now has 15 points (6G-9A) in five games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs.
2018 NHL Draft prospect Calen Addison of the Lethbridge Hurricanes picked up second star honours for the evening, tallying three helpers in his team’s 5-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in Game One of their best-of-seven series. Addison earned assists on Lethbridge’s second, fourth, and fifth goals in the contest. Addison now has 10 points (2G-8A) in six games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs.
Rounding out the three stars Friday was Moose Jaw Warriors forward Tanner Jeannot (Nashville Predators), who scored twice in his team’s 5-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos. Jeannot scored Moose Jaw’s third and fifth goals in the game. The goals were his first of the 2018 WHL Playoffs, giving him 21 points (8G-13A) in 25 career WHL playoff games.
