Saturday’s edition of the WHL Three Stars belonged the Swift Current Broncos and Tri-City Americans following their respective Game Two victories.
Giorgio Estephan burned his former club with a hat trick, capped off by the overtime-winner to give the Broncos a 4-3 victory and a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Estephan scored twice early in the game to give the Broncos the first lead of the game before scoring the decisive goal later on. In 16 games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Estephan has 15 points (8G-7A), including four power-play goals and one game-winning goal.
Earning second star honours for the evening was Americans forward Parker AuCoin, who tallied a pair of goals and an assist for the three-point performance. AuCoin scored the first and third goals of the game for the Americans, his first-ever multi-goal performance of his WHL Playoffs career. The Sturgeon County, Alta. product now has four points (3G-1A) in 10 games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs.
Rounding out the WHL Three Stars Saturday was another Edmonton-area product as goaltender Patrick Dea stopped 37 of 40 shots sent his way in the 5-3 victory against the Silvertips. Dea responded to his first loss of the post-season with the strong performance, improving his stat line in the 2018 WHL Playoffs to 8-1, 2.82 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and two shutouts. The St. Albert, Alta. product is third among WHL goaltender in the post-season for GAA, fifth for SV%, tied for third in victories and tied for second in shutouts.
