#WHLChampionship – Three Stars: May 8, 2018

 

Another exciting game in the 2018 Rogers WHL Championship Series produced a deserving lineup for Tuesday’s edition of the Western Hockey League Three Stars of the night.

Leading the way was Swift Current Broncos captain Glenn Gawdin (Calgary Flames), who notched the first hat trick of his WHL Playoffs career, ending the game in overtime. Gawdin has now recorded a point in eight of his last night games, rocketing up into third place in the scoring race for the 2018 WHL Playoffs with 29 points (12G-17A) in 21 games. The Richmond, B.C. product has now appeared in 45 career WHL Playoffs games, totalling 42 points (19G-23A), including seven power-play goals, one short-handed goal and six game-winning goals.

Earning second star honours for the evening was Broncos goaltender Stuart Skinner (Edmonton Oilers), who stopped 37 of 39 shots in the 3-2 overtime victory. The Edmonton, Alta. product presently leads all goaltenders in the 2018 WHL Playoffs with 14 wins, a 2.31 goals-against-average and a .928 save percentage and four shutouts. Just named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week Tuesday, Skinner has posted a 2.22 GAA and .935 SV% during the first three games of the 2018 Rogers WHL Championship Series.

Rounding out the WHL Three Stars Tuesday was Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart (Philadelphia Flyers), who stopped 27 of 29 shots in the 3-2 overtime loss to the Broncos. The Sherwood Park, Alta. product has maintained a 13-6 record with two overtime losses, 2.45 GAA, .922 SV% and two shutouts in the 2018 WHL Playoffs.
