WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas now accepting applications

 

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League is now accepting registrations for the 2018 WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas, scheduled for August 10-12, 2018, and to be hosted by the Dallas Stars and the Dr. Pepper StarCenter – Farmers Branch. This is a unique opportunity for 2004-2007 born U.S. hockey players to gain WHL information and exposure by participating in on/off-ice WHL Combine Testing, on/off-ice development, and scrimmages with other top-ranked players.

The WHL is the largest Major Junior hockey league in North America and is a leading supplier of player talent to the National Hockey League. This will be the first evaluation opportunity conducted by the WHL in the United States, as part of the newly developed WHL U.S. Prospects Identification Model. The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will serve as the first point of exposure for aspiring WHL U.S. Prospects, and provide the opportunity to increase your chances of being accepted to participate in the WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Anaheim. A pre-WHL Bantam Draft showcase attended by all 22 WHL Clubs, and integral resource for WHL Bantam Draft selection of top U.S. Prospects.

“The WHL is very excited to bring a WHL U.S. Prospects Camp to Dallas in partnership with the Dallas Stars Organization,” commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. “WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will provide prospects in the U.S. an opportunity to learn more about the WHL, the world’s leading development league for junior-age players”.

Testing results from the WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will be entered into the WHL database and will be shared with all WHL General Managers and Head Scouts. Participants will also be given individual account access where they can view their own results including event comparisons, progress reports of all historical WHL Combine participation, and receive access to the WHL Database to filter results by age and compare scores to over 12,000 players tested across Western Canada and the western United States.

The camp will begin the evening of Friday, August 10, and will conclude the evening of Sunday August 12. The 2018 WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will feature:

  • WHL Combine On-Ice Testing
  • WHL Combine Off-Ice Testing
  • WHL On-Ice Development
  • WHL Off-Ice Development
  • WHL Information Session (With Parent/Player Q&A)
  • 2 Scrimmages
  • Dallas Stars & WHL Guest Event Staff
  • WHL Combine Souvenir Jersey

Throughout the course of the weekend, players and their families will learn about the benefits of playing Major Junior hockey – the highest level in the Canadian system. Athlete testing will be completed by the WHL Combines, a working partnership between the WHL & Okanagan Hockey Group, utilizing the global leading SportTesting Inc. technology platform. The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will contain multiple participant groups, strategically separated by the WHL, based on date of birth.

ELIGIBILITY
The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas is open to U.S. Residents born in 2004-2007, playing high-level competitive hockey, and currently living in the western United States (all western U.S. States including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming are within the protected territory designated by the Canadian Hockey League to the WHL).

Over the coming weeks, the WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will continue to collect registrations. All completed registrations will be reviewed, by the WHL U.S. Prospects Camp selection committee. All registrations will be notified with two weeks of their registration entry date. Accepted applications will be provided with all necessary participant information, including travel, hotel, venue, participation, and preparation details. All unsuccessful applications will be notified, and issued a full refund.

*Attending this camp does not affect a player’s NCAA eligibility, nor does speaking with WHL Office or Club staff.
