WHL Roundup: Americans rout ICE at home
Kootenay ICE (0) at Tri-City Americans (6)
Kootenay (1-3-0-0) // Tri-City (4-2-1-0)
Tuesday’s lone pre-season game in the Western Hockey League was won in a landslide.
The Tri-City Americans put their home-ice advantage at the Toyota Centre in Kennwick, Wash. to good use, scoring four second period goals to down the Kootenay ICE 6-0.
Six different Americans scored in the victory, including Sasha Mutala, who notched the game-winner on the power play near the midway mark of the first period.
Blowing the game wide open in the second period, the Americans reeled off goals 29 seconds apart as Nolan Yaremko and Carson Focht found the back of the net close to each other.
Parker AuCoin and Sergei Sapego added the two other goals in the second period while Roman Kalinichenko rounded out the scoring with his first of the pre-season early in the third.
Americans goaltender Patrick Dea turned aside all 25 shots he faced for his second win of the pre-season. Recent ICE acquisition Bailey Brkin allowed four goals on 20 shots while Mario Petit stopped nine of 11 shots sent his way in the losing cause.
On the Ams’ end, Tuesday’s game served as their second last pre-season tune-up. They’ll host the Spokane Chiefs in their pre-season finale Saturday. The ICE will close out their pre-season schedule with games against the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Calgary Hitmen in the Crowsnest Pass, Alta. Friday and Saturday respectively.
Pre-season action continues Friday with five games.
