WHL Playoffs on Shaw: Royals Clash with Rockets for Game 5

CALGARY, AB – Alex Forsberg and the Victoria Royals clash with Tomas Soustal and the Kelowna Rockets in an important Game 5 of their Round 2 match-up on Friday night, live on SHAW HD channel 304 at (8:00pm MT/7:00pm PT). The series is tied at two games apiece.

Forsberg and the Victoria Royals look to rebound after dropping back-to-back one goal decisions in Kelowna in Games 3 and 4. Forsberg is having a productive post-season thus far with nine points (4g-5a), including two game winning goals. The Royals are undefeated when they carry a lead after two periods of play, going 5-0-0-0 in the post-season so developing a lead is essential for them to likely ensure a win.

The defending WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets picked up a pair of wins on home ice to force this series to at least six games. Tomas Soustal has reached double figures in point scoring with 10 (5g-5a) to lead the Club, including a pair of game winning goals.  A big component that has played into the Rocket’s level of success has been their penalty kill play. The Rockets head into the match-up with an 83.3% penalty kill rate which marks the fifth-best amongst all playoff Clubs.

All four games of this series have been determined by one goal with the home team prevailing in every contest. The Royals won the 2015-16 regular season series with the Kelowna Rockets as they took five out of eight match-ups. Royals’ rookie forward Matthew Phillips amassed 16 points (5g-11a) to lead all skaters in the Clubs’ prior head-to-head meetings while Rockets’ forward Justin Kirkland tallied seven points (4g-3a) to lead all Kelowna skaters.
