Warriors, Rebels swap blueliners in Friday deal

The Western Hockey League’s East Division continued to stockpile assets for the playoff drive Friday as the Moose Jaw Warriors picked up 19-year old defenceman Brandon Schuldhaus fourth round selection in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. from the Red Deer Rebels.

Heading to the Rebels are  19-year old defenceman Colin Paradis, a second round selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, and a second round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

Schuldhaus, a 6-foot-4, 198-pound product of Calgary, Alta., had 12 assists in 37 games with the Rebels this season. Drafted by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the fifth round, 103rd overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Schuldhaus has played in 161 WHL regular season games with the Thunderbirds and Rebels, scoring 32 points (4G-28A).

As the Warriors acquired one defenceman, they traded another, sending Paradis back to his home province. A 6-foot-0, 181-pound product of Sherwood Park, Alta., Paradis was drafted by the Warriors in the fourth round, 73rd overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. In 37 games this season, Paradis has four points (1G-3A), with his lone WHL goal coming as a game-winner in a November 14, 2017 game against the Swift Current Broncos.

Over the course of his 165-game WHL career, Paradis has 18 points (1G-17A) and 36 penalty minutes.

The Warriors will continue their second tour of Alberta this season Friday, January 5 (7:00 p.m. MST) against the Calgary Hitmen. The Rebels are on the road Friday, January 5 (7:05 p.m. CST) to do battle with the Saskatoon Blades.
