Victoria Royals’ Griffen Outhouse named WHL Goaltender of the Week


Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals goaltender Griffen Outhouse has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 1, 2017.

Outhouse, an 18-year-old product of Williams Lake, BC, went 4-0-0-0 this past week with a 0.75 goals-against average, .979 save percentage and one shutout. His return from the holiday break began with a 42-save performance on Tuesday, December 27, in a 5-1 win versus Prince George, in which he was named second star. On Wednesday, December 28, Outhouse got the best of the Cougars once again, turning in a 40-save shutout, being named first star in a 3-0 win. On Friday, December 30, he made 26 saves in a 2-1 win at Kelowna and was once again recognized as first star. Finally, Outhouse rounded out his week with another 30 saves on Saturday, December 31, in a 6-1 win at Kamloops.



The 6-fooot, 175-pound goaltender was listed by the Victoria Royals. In his second season with the Royals, Outhouse is 21-12-3-0 and is listed among the WHL’s top goaltenders in a number of major categories. With 21 wins he is tied for second, while his 2.66 GAA ranks fourth and his .921 SV% is good enough for third in the league. Outhouse also has two shutouts to his name this season, good enough to place him in a tie for third in the WHL.

In 63 career WHL regular season appearances, Outhouse is 39-15-6-1 with a 2.30 GAA, .927 SV% and six shutouts.
