Silvertips’ Wolf named WHL Goaltender of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 29, 2017.
Wolf had quite the performance his first two WHL games this weekend, guiding his team to road victories over the Kamloops Blazers and Portland Winterhawks as he made his WHL debut.
Everett’s fifth-round selection from the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft (104th overall), made his debut Friday at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, B.C., making 38 saves as the Silvertips picked up a 3-1 victory over the Blazers. That performance earned him recognition from the WHL as their third star of the night. Wolf shut down the Blazers in the first and third periods of the game, stopping all 27 shots against as the Silvertips never trailed in the contest.
Sunday against the division-powerhouse Portland Winterhawks, Wolf made 44 saves on 46 shots for his second win in as many attempts. Wolf once again faced a heavy workload, with the Winterhawks firing 15 shots at him in both the first and third periods while sending 16 his way in the second. Though he gave up the opening goal in the contest, the Silvertips only trailed for a total time of 5:40 in the entire game.
Through two games, the 5-foot-11, 150-pound goaltender from Tustin, Calif., has a perfect 2-0-0-0 record with a 1.50 goals against average and 0.965 SV%.
