Silvertips take on Thunderbirds in first round of 2018 WHL Playoffs
The Everett Silvertips are U.S. Division Champions and will finish as the top seed in the WHL’s Western Conference after the Portland Winterhawks fell 5-1 to the Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday evening.
Seattle’s win sets up a first-round meeting between a pair of Pacific Northwest rivals as the Thunderbirds – posted up in the second wild card seed – will take on the Conference-champion Silvertips.
With one game remaining in their regular season slate, the Thunderbirds head into Sunday with a record of 34-27-8-2 (78 points). The defending WHL Champions have been led by veteran forward Nolan Volcan, who has notched 76 points (32G-44A) in 70 contests.
At the time of this schedule release, the Silvertips found themselves with a 5-1 lead over the Victoria Royals in the second period of play, also Saturday night. With the result from that game still up in the air, Everett heads into the final day of the WHL Regular Season with a record of 46-20-2-3 (97 points).
Once again, the Silvertips boast the formidable presence of Philadelphia Flyers prospect Carter Hart. The product of Sherwood Park, Alta., has enjoyed an incredible campaign yet again, owning a record of 30-6-1-3 with a 1.61 goals-against average, .947 save percentage and seven shutouts – Saturday’s outcome still outstanding.
Game 1 between the ‘Tips and T-Birds will fire up Friday, March 23 (7:35 p.m. PT) at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett.
