Silvertips’ Hart named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for February

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for February 2017.

Hart, an 18-year-old product of Sherwood Park, AB, chalked up a record of 8-2-0-0 during the month of February, with an outstanding 1.74 goals-against average, .942 save percentage, two shutouts and 262 saves.

The reigning CHL Goaltender of the Year logged shutouts in back-to-back starts at the beginning of the month, making 21 saves on Saturday, February 4, in a 1-0 win versus Vancouver before then stopping 31 pucks on Saturday, February 11, in a 2-0 win at Moose Jaw.

In 11 appearances during the month of February, Hart surrendered two goals or fewer in eight complete outings, earning first star honours four times, second star recognition twice and third star accolades twice.

While Hart was not recognized as WHL Goaltender of the Week at any point during the month of February, he is a three-time winner of the award this season (November 20, November 27, January 15) and was previously named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for November. To top it all off, the veteran netminder was named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 27.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender is among the WHL leaders is nearly every major goaltending category. His 1.96 GAA and eight shutouts are both good enough for first among all WHL goaltenders, while his .928 SV% ranks second. Hart’s 27 wins are tied for fifth in the WHL. Overall, he has earned a record of 27-8-6-1 in 45 appearances this season.

The steady puck-stopper represented Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, seeing action in seven games, going 3-1-0-0 with a 2.38 GAA and .906 SV% in helping his nation to a silver-medal finish.

Hart was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (48th) of the 2016 NHL Draft and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club in October 2016.

Originally selected by the Everett Silvertips in the eighth round (158th) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has suited up for 140 career WHL regular season games, going 80-37-9-8 with a 2.13 GAA, .920 SV% and 18 shutouts.
