Silvertips, Cougars swap Ethans in Monday deal


The Prince George Cougars and Everett Silvertips completed a trade Monday, swapping forwards.

Heading to Prince George is Ethan Browne with Ethan O’Rourke headed to the Pacific Northwest in a one-for-one trade.

Browne, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound product of Sherwood Park, Alta., was originally drafted by the Silvertips in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2016 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. Since being drafted, Browne has played in nine games for Everett, tallying one assist and four shots on goal.

Two seasons ago, in his Bantam draft year, Browne was named the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League Forward of the Year, and Most Sportsmanlike Player. In 36 games with the Bantam AAA Sherwood Park Flyers, he had 39 goals and 77 points. He had another 10 goals and 23 points in 10 playoff games that season.

Going the other way in the deal is O’Rourke, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound product of Penticton, B.C. Originally drafted in the third round, 55th overall, of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, O’Rourke has appeared in 57 games with the Cougars, recording 16 points (6G-10A). He has one power play goal and 32 penalty minutes to his name as well.

Up next for the Silvertips is a date on the road against the Victoria Royals January, 5 (7:05 p.m. PST) while the Cougars will head home to open a two-game set against the Tri-City Americans starting Friday, January 5 (7:00 p.m. PST).
