Silvertips and Americans set to meet in Western Conference Championship

Eight teams began the race to become the Western Conference Champion on March 22. Now, two remain.

The Everett Silvertips, the top team from the Western Conference in 2017-18 WHL regular season, will collide with the Tri-City Americans in the first all-U.S. Division battle for the Western Conference Championships since the Americans and Portland Winterhawks met in the 2012 WHL Playoffs.

The Americans come in on an incredible roll, winning eight straight games to sweep their first two series against the Kelowna Rockets and Victoria Royals. Led by the duo of Morgan Geekie (Carolina Hurricanes) and captain Michael Rasmussen (Detroit Red Wings), the Americans will bring a formidable offensive challenge. Geekie has 24 points (15G-9A) in eight games, tied with 24 points (10G-14A) from Rasmussen that has them tied for second in scoring for the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

Staring down the Americans’ offensive options is Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart (Philadelphia Flyers), who has appeared in 10 games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs, sporting an 8-2 record, 1.92 goals-against-average, and .944 save percentage while also recording two shutouts.

Game One of the series will take place Friday, April 20 (7:35 p.m. PT) at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Wash.
