RUSSIA DRAWS EVEN WITH WIN OVER CANADA
 

Yaroslavl, RUS – Team Canada dropped a 6-3 decision to Russia in Game 2 of the 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge on Friday in Yaroslavl, Russia.

The win for the Russians evens up the four-game series at 1-1 following Canada’s 3-2 victory in the series opener on Thursday.

Ty Rattie of the Portland Winterhawks tallied a goal and an assist and Morgan Rielly of the Moose Jaw Warriors also scored for the Canadians, who also got a goal from Ryan Strome, while Lukas Sutter of the Saskatoon Blades chipped in an assist on Rielly’s tally.

Kirill Kapustin scored three times for the Russians, including a power play marker, a shorthanded marker and an even-strength tally.  Maxim Shalunov scored a pair of goals and Anton Zlobin also found the net for the Russians, who skated to a 3-1 lead in the second period after a scoreless opening frame.

Russian goaltender Andrey Makarov, a team mate of Sutter in Saskatoon, picked up the victory for Russia.  Maxime Lagace was in net for Canada, absorbing the loss.

The series now heads to Halifax, N.S., for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday.
