Rockets’ Herringer named WHL Goaltender of the Week

 

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets goaltender Michael Herringer has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 26, 2017.

The 21-year-old Herringer went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .960 save percentage and one shutout as the Kelowna Rockets claimed a 2-0 lead over the Kamloops Blazers in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series.

On Friday, March 24, Herringer was perfect, steering aside 15 shots sent his way in a 4-0 victory versus Kamloops. On Saturday, March 25, Herringer stood on his head, this time making 33 saves on 35 shots in a 3-2 win versus Kamloops, earning first-star honours for his efforts.

Herringer, who is in his final WHL season, went 33-15-3-0 with a 2.78 GAA, .904 SV% and two shutouts through 58 regular season appearances in 2016-17. On two separate occasions, he was recognized with WHL Goaltender of the Week honours, including for the week ending October 23, 2016, and the week ending March 5, 2017.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound product of Comox, B.C., went 71-29-5-0 with a 2.88 GAA, .904 SV% and five shutouts in 115 career WHL regular season appearances.

In 24 career WHL post-season contests, Herringer is 13-9-1 with a 2.25 GAA, .9311 SV% and three shutouts.

Herringer and the Kelowna Rockets take a 2-0 lead over the Blazers in their best-of-seven first-round series to the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. PT.
