Pats’ Sergey Zborovskiy named WHL Player of the Week

 

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats defenceman Sergey Zborovskiy has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 4, 2016.

Zborovskiy registered nine points (3G-6A) in two games to help the Regina Pats go 2-0-0-0 this past week.

On Saturday, December 3, Zborovskiy exploded for seven points (2G-5A) in a resounding 12-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders, being named first star in the process. The 19-year-old product of Moscow, Russia, followed up with a goal and an assist in a 6-3 road win over the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday, December 4, earning third star recognition.

Zborovskiy is currently 10th in overall scoring amongst WHL defencemen with 25 points (6G-19A) in 22 games. He also leads the entire WHL with a rating of plus-39.

For the second consecutive season, Zborovskiy represented his nation at the CIBC Canada Russia Series. He has since been named to Team Russia’s training camp roster for the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound defenceman was selected by the New York Rangers in the third round (79th) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Originally a first round pick (39th) of the Regina Pats at the 2014 CHL Import Draft, Zborovskiy in his third season with the Pats and has skated in 157 career WHL regular season games, collecting 69 points (17G-52A).
