Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings are very proud to congratulate defenceman Griffin Reinhart on signing his three-year NHL entry-level contract today with the New York Islanders. The 6’4", 202-pound defenceman made Oil Kings history on June 22, 2012, as he became the Oil Kings highest-ever NHL Draft pick. The Islanders drafted Reinhart fourth overall, as he was the first of three Oil Kings chosen in the top 32 of the draft.
In 2011-12, Reinhart set career highs with 58 games played, 12 goals, 24 assists, 36 points, a plus/minus rating of +23 and 38 penalty minutes. He was named an Oil Kings Assistant Captain and helped lead the team to their first WHL Championship in the modern era.
Reinhart is one of two Oil Kings selected to play in the 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge next week. He will be joined by his teammate goalie Laurent Brossoit, the MVP of the 2012 WHL Championship series. The Challenge replaces Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp for this year and runs Aug.9-14 in Yaroslavl, Russia and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
