Oil Kings acquire Leslie from Blades for conditional pick

The Saskatoon Blades and Edmonton Oil Kings swung a deal Monday to begin the week.

Heading to Alberta’s capital is defenceman Jantzen Leslie (1999) while the Blades will receive a conditional eighth-round draft pick in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Leslie, originally a first-round draft pick of the Everett Silvertips in 2014, has played in 82 WHL regular season games, posting five assists and 32 penalty minutes in that span. Jantzen has also appeared in six playoff games with the Silvertips, registering one assist and a plus-two rating.

The move helps the Oil Kings in the short term in the absence of two defenceman. Wyatt McLeod’s status remains unknown with a lower-body injury while the team will also have another temporary hole with defenceman Matthew Robertson headed to the 2017 World U-17 Hockey Challenge in early November.
