CALGARY, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice is the WHL Player of the Month for February, 2014.

Reinhart, an 18-year-old from Vancouver, B.C., amassed 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points along with a +15 rating in 13 games in February, helping the Ice post an 11-2-0-0 record in that span.  The 6’1”, 183-lb center recorded at least one point in all 13 games he played in February, and recorded multiple points on nine occasions including seven games in which he recorded three or more points.  Reinhart scored in eight games in February, including netting three game-winning tallies, and recorded at least one assist in all 13 games.  Reinhart led all WHL players in assists and points during the month, and was tied for fifth in plus-minus.

Reinhart’s strong performance during February saw him selected among the 3 Stars on seven occasions, including four 1st Star selections and three 2nd Star nods.  His productive month also helped Reinhart set new Kootenay Ice franchise records for longest point streak at 22 consecutive games and longest assist streak at 15 games.

Reinhart is in his third season in the WHL with the Kootenay Ice.  The Ice’s first-round pick, 15th overall, in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, Reinhart has accumulated 99 goals and 243 points in 196 career regular-season contests.  A member of Canada’s national junior team for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship, Reinhart is considered one of the top prospects for the 2014 NHL Draft.

Reinhart’s accomplishments make him a deserving choice as the WHL Player of the Month for February.
