ICE acquire forward Veloso from Winterhawks

The Kootenay ICE made a big addition to their lineup Friday, making a trade with the Portland Winterhawks.

Headed to the ICE is winger Colton Veloso (1997) while the Winterhawks receive a conditional fourth round pick in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

A six-foot-one, 191-pound product of Winnipeg, Man., Veloso comes to the ICE with 156 regular season games of WHL experience. In 71 games last season, he tallied 18 goals and 32 points along with 49 penalty minutes.

To date, he has 30 goals and 52 points in his WHL career along with 71 penalty minutes. Five of his goals have come on the power play while two have been short-handed. Last season, he tallied four game-winning goals for the Winterhawks.

In 15 games of playoff experience for Portland, Veloso added two goals and six points. The move can be viewed as a low-cost pickup for the ICE, as they add an offensive piece to a forward core that already includes Surrey, B.C. native Colton Kroeker and 2016 WHL Bantam Draft first overall selection Peyton Krebs.
