Giants’ Tyler Benson named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Giants forward Tyler Benson has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 16, 2016.

Benson registered eight points (5G-3A) in four games to help the Vancouver Giants go 4-0-0-0 during a road trip through the Central Division this past week.

On Monday, October 10 against the Calgary Hitmen, Benson put forth a first-star effort with a goal and three assists in a 5-3 win. The 18-year-old product of Edmonton chipped in with a goal in a 2-0 win over his hometown Oil Kings on Tuesday, October 11. In a 4-3 overtime with against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Benson provided three of his team’s goals, earning second-star recognition for his hat trick.

Benson is currently tied for second on the Giants in scoring with nine points (5G-4A) through seven games this season.

The 6-foot, 190-pound left winger was a second round pick (32nd) of the Edmonton Oilers at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Benson is in his third WHL season with the Giants, having collected 82 points (26G-54A) in 106 career WHL regular season contests.
