Canada tops Group A with perfect record at U18 Worlds

Canada has topped Group A at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship following a 6-2 victory over the Czech Republic Tuesday in Sweden.

Nolan Maier (Yorkton, Sask. / Saskatoon Blades) improved to 2-0 at the tournament, stopping 23 of the 25 shots sent his way.

Canada scored one goal in the first, two in the second, and three in the third period. Captain Peyton Krebs (Okotoks, Alta. / Winnipeg ICE) scored Canada’s sixth goal of the game with alternate captain Dylan Cozens (Whitehorse, Yukon / Lethbridge Hurricanes) picking up the primary assist on the goal.

After giving up the first two goals of the game, Maier and Canada held the fort the rest of the way, responding with six unanswered goals.

Three WHL players finished the round robin portion of the tournament in the top five of scoring for Canada. Krebs had seven points (4G-3A) in four games, matched by Cozens’ seven points (3G-4A) in a similar amount of games. Brayden Tracey (Calgary, Alta. / Moose Jaw Warriors) finished the round robin with six points (4G-2A) in four games.
