Calgary Hitmen sign Tschigerl, Galloway to WHL Standard Player Agreements

The Calgary Hitmen’s top two selections from the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft have signed WHL Standard Player Agreements with the Central Division club.

Sean Tschigerl, the fourth overall selection in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft, hails from Whitecourt, Alta., but has played with OHA Edmonton for the past two seasons. In 30 games with OHA Edmonton’s Bantam Prep team, Tschigerl tallied 70 points (31G-39A), leading the team in scoring. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward then added 14 points (10G-4A) in five games as OHA Edmonton captured the Canadian Sport School Hockey League championship for the Bantam Prep division.

In two seasons with the Bantam Prep program at OHA Edmonton, he tallied 101 points (44G-57A) in 60 games, adding 17 points (12G-5A) in eight playoff games. Tschigerl represented Team Edmonton Yellow at the 2018 Alberta Cup. In two games with the OHA Edmonton Midget Prep team, Tschigerl recorded a pair of goals.

Also signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Hitmen was defenceman Tyson Galloway, the Hitmen’s second selection, 25th overall, in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft. Galloway spent the 2017-18 season with the Bantam Prep team from the Yale Hockey Academy, recording 14 points (3G-11A). He also appeared in a single game with Yale Hockey Academy’s Midget Prep team.

With the signings of Tschigerl and Galloway, nine of the 22 selections from the first round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft have now signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with their respective club.
