Calgary Hitmen Clinch Scotty Munro Trophy

HITMEN TAME TIGERS TO FINISH IN FIRST PLACE OVERALL– The Calgary Hitmen have claimed the Scotty Munro Trophy for owning the best record during the 2008-09 WHL regular season.


The Hitmen defeated the Tigers 4-1 in Medicine Hat on Saturday night, giving them a record of 58-9-3-1 for 120 points – one more point than the Vancouver Giants, who finish their regular-season schedule with 119 points.


Carson McMillan and Alex Plante each tallied a goal and an assist while Chase Schaber and Joel Broda also scored for the Hitmen, who equal a franchise record for most points in a single season.  Martin Jones turned aside 19 of 20 shots he faced to record his 45th win of the season.


Tyler Ennis scored his 43rd goal of the season for the Tigers (36-29-4-3), who finish the season in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and will meet the Swift Current Broncos in the first round of the 2009 Playoffs.  Ryan Holfeld made 29 saves in the defeat.
